How to organise a brilliant residential
A unique staff development opportunity for teachers to take part in a 1 night / 2 day residential visit, based in the Lake District and taking place during January 2020. This is a short residential experience where teachers become pupils for a few days with the overall aim of promoting the great benefits of residential visits and providing an opportunity to get advice on the most practical and best practice way to organise brilliant residentials.
First Education and School Travel are providers of UK wide all-inclusive school trip packages. We work with our partners to deliver outside classroom opportunities to all age groups, from key stage 2 through to university students. It is our intention to encourage more, inexperienced and newly qualified teachers to get involved with school trip planning and being involved in organising brilliant residential visits in their own schools.
Learning Outside the Classroom is about raising young people’s achievement through an organised, powerful approach to learning in which direct experience is of prime importance. Meaningful learning occurs through acquiring skills through real life, hands-on activities. There is a wealth of evidence which clearly demonstrates the benefits for young people’s learning and personal development outside the classroom.
We would like to offer your nominated member of staff team this exciting opportunity to develop their knowledge in this area and invite them to take part in this fabulous overnight residential. They will get to experience just what it’s like for pupils attending a residential - from the welcome on arrival, to taking part in activities, sleeping in and exploring a contrasting environment and tasting the nutritious meals.
How will it work?
Day 1: Arrival by 11.00. Attendees will make their own way to the venue at High Close in Langdale to arrive ready for an 11.00 o clock start. Following check in participants will be given a chance to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings and to meet other attendees in a “getting to know you” session. There will then follow a session with one of the team from First Education & School Travel, (FEST) to outline the aims and objectives of the programme and to provide great tips and advice for best practice trip planning.
Participants will then be taking part in a series of educational activities led by Learn By Design, one of the UK’s leading School STEM practitioners. Dinner will be scheduled for 18.30 and will then be followed by more fun and inspiring evening activities. Day 1 ends around 21.00.
Day 2: After breakfast, there will more activities, this time team challenges led by the team from Langdale, then lunch and a final session to sum up and an opportunity for any questions. Departure will be around 14.00.
